FAQs - Noomi Bean Bags

FAQs

Q: What is so special and awesome about noomi's bean bags and support cushions?

A: noomi's bean bags and support cushions mould to your body shape, not the other way round. That's thanks to their unique stretchable cotton cover and lining, the amount, size and quality of the beads and their truly unique shape. Our bean bags and support cushions are multi-purpose, look amazing in any room, whether it's home or office, are suitable for every age as they provide great back support and are heaps of fun to use. And last but not least -  we ship them to your door pre-filled, which to the best of our knowledge, we're the only crazy ones who do that...

Q: What does it mean "the bean bag comes ready"?

A: If you choose a pre-filled product, you will get your noomi already stuffed with all the beads inside the liner and the cover on top, completely ready to use.
There's a couple of small exceptions to that:
Noomi Moon: You'll just have to close the zipper when you get it, as the Noomi Moon ships with the zipper open to be able to fit in the box.
2XL: The 2XL bean bag is made of 2 x noomi XL liners and 1 x double cover. It ships in 2 separate boxes. The first liner will already be inside the cover. All you need to do is put the 2nd liner inside the cover and close the zipper. Then sit down and relax!

Q: Do the bean bags come wrapped?

A: For deliveries in Melbourne metro, bean bags come wrapped in a plastic bag. For deliveries anywhere outside Melbourne metro, our bean bags get delivered in a cardboard box. When placed in a box, it's usually done without a bag, to avoid using unnecessary packaging.

Q: What fabric do we use?

A: Our bean bags and support cushions are made of 2 layers of top quality fabric. The cover is made of soft stretchy cotton knit and can be unzipped, taken off and washed in a washing machine. The inner lining is made of strong stretchy polyester and can be wiped clean with a wet cloth if necessary. The inner lining holds all of the 2,355,788,914,273 beads (yes, we counted them!) and both covers are equipped with child-resistant zippers to ensure that no child allows the beads to see the light of day...

Q: What kind of filling is used in noomi's bean bags and support cushions?

We use only the best EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) beads. Ours beads are smaller (around 2-3 mm in diameter) and denser than store bought beads. As a result they don't compress as much, last longer, make less noise and generally feel better. You may need to top up the beads when you feel that your product is a bit less awesome than usual.

Q: The bean bags and support cushions are a bit stiff. What can I do?

A: The bean bags and support cushions will give in within a few days of use. If after a few days they are still too stiff to your liking, you can open them and take out some of the beads. Be sure to keep those extra beads for future use. See instructions below as to how to open the child-resistant zipper.

Q: How often do I need to top-up the beads?

A: That is a very good question! You get noomi's bean bags and support cushions pre-filled, so you know roughly what they feel like when they are as full as they should be. When you feel that they need a bit of a boost, either order a re-fill from us or pay us a visit and we will service your product for you. This is likely to happen after around a year, but really depends on the manner and frequency of use.

Q: Do I have to buy re-fill beads from noomi?

A: You don't have to, but you want to. Not only our beads are the best in the market and therefore last a very long time, they are also one of the reasons noomi's products look the way they look and feel the way they feel: GREAT. If you use the large beads they sell in the big department stores, those beads will "pop" through the fabric and your product will look like it's got some kind of a rash. Yuck. If you can get small beads (about 3 mm diameter) from somewhere else, we say: go for it. As long as the product is happy and you're happy, we're happy.

Q: Does noomi offer service for bean bags and support cushions?

A: Yes, we do! If you need to top-up the beads or want to get yourself a shiny new cover, bring your product to our store. We will send it back to our factory for a professional re-fill and let you know when it's ready for collection from the store. All you need to pay us for is the beads we added! We can also ship beads and new covers to your door, but then you'll have to do everything by yourself...

Q: Can I use noomi's bean bag outdoors?

A: Yes, you can, but keep in mind that although they are made of high quality fabric, they can get dirty or even tear if you use them on rough surfaces, just as fabric pants would. So if you use the bean bags outdoors in a reasonable way, you should be fine. Just make sure you don't leave them outside for too long as long exposure to the sun may cause some discolouration, and if it rains - well, you will have a wet bean bag ... If the cover gets dirty you can unzip it and wash it in a washing machine, but some stains such as fake tan or sunscreen, will not come off, just as they won't come off clothes or furniture.

Q: Are noomi's bean bags and support cushions safe?

A: Yes, they are. Our products comply with the Australian standard (TRADE PRACTICES (CONSUMER PRODUCT SAFETY STANDARDS) REGULATIONS 1979) and therefore both the outer cover and the inner lining are equipped with a child-resistant zipper. This is to ensure that small children cannot open the zipper easily and let the beads out. Small beads could pose choking hazard to small children and animals if inhaled. If your bean bag or cushion are torn, you can stitch them or buy a new cover. Make sure there are no naughty beads left around simply by vacuuming them.

Q: How do I open the child-resistant zipper?

A: Use a paper clip or a safety pin to unlock the zipper itself, then gently slide it. Do not force it if it doesn't move. Make sure it is unlocked first. It is necessary to use a paper clip only to open the zipper. When you close it you can simply pull it with your fingers.

Q: What are the recommended care instructions?

A: noomi Moon, noomi XL, noomi S, support U, support tube, mini pyramid, caterpillow: unzip the outer cover using a paper clip or safety pin and take the cover off. The cover can be machine washed in 30 degrees Celsius. Do not soak, bleach, iron or dry clean. Light tumble dry is possible or hang on the clothes lines, it's better for the environment anyway. The inner cover can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.

cuddle swing: remove the shackle and ropes. Machine wash, 30 degrees Celsius, do not soak, bleach, iron or dry clean. Light tumble dry is possible or hang on the clothes lines.

Q: What's the best way to refill the bean bag and support cushion?

A: First make sure that there are no small children or pets around to ensure they don't inhale any small beads by accident and don't see you looking all goofy when the beads go all over the place. It is easier to do this with 2 people, as one can hold the product and the other one do the filling. It's also funnier this way.

    • Unzip the outer cover using a paper clip or safety pin and take it off.
    • Carefully unzip the inner lining with the paper clip or safety pin and start pouring in beads.
    • Once it looks full you can close the inner lining, squash it a bit to make more room, open it again and add more beads.
    • Repeat this process of opening-pouring-closing-squashing until you find it full enough or until you give up and burst into tears.
    • Vacuum the remaining beads and your pride and then put the cover back. Scan the room again for more beads and vacuum if necessary.
    • Rest on your bean bag from all the hard work. Well done!

Alternatively, drop in for a service (with the product of course) and we will do all the hard work for you!
